CSV exports and backups contain counter data and history and are saved or shared where you choose.
Lawful bases and data protection rights
Under UK data protection law, we must have a “lawful basis” for collecting and using your personal information. There is a list of possible lawful bases in the UK GDPR.
Which lawful basis we rely on may affect your data protection rights which are set out in brief below:

You can request other information such as details about where we get personal information from and who we share personal information with. There are some exemptions which means you may not receive all the information you ask for.

Our lawful bases for the collection and use of your data
- Contract – we have to collect or use the information so we can enter into or carry out a contract with you. All of your data protection rights may apply except the right to object.
Our lawful bases for collecting or using personal information for dealing with queries, complaints or claims are:
- Legal obligation – we have to collect or use your information so we can comply with the law. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to erasure, the right to object and the right to data portability.
We get personal information directly from you.
How long we keep information
We process and store your personal information for as long as required by the purpose they have been collected for.
Therefore:
- Personal information collected for purposes related to the performance of a contract shall be retained until such contract has been fully performed.
- Personal information collected for dealing with your queries, complaints or claims shall be retained until a complete response is provided.
Counter data remains on your devices and, if enabled, in iCloud until you delete it. Deleted counters can be recovered from Recently Deleted for 30 days, unless you permanently delete them sooner. A counter identifier is retained after permanent deletion to prevent old devices or backups from restoring deleted content. The local sync store also retains an iCloud account identifier for its lifetime to prevent synchronization with a different account.
To remove local data, delete Tallyhop from each device that holds a copy. Deleting the app does not delete iCloud data. You can delete that data through iOS Settings, your Apple Account, iCloud, Manage Account Storage. Turn off sync on all devices first to avoid uploading retained copies again. Delete exported files and backups separately.
For more information on how long we store your personal information or the criteria we use to determine this please contact us using the details provided above.
Third-party services we use
We use the following services which might be involved in processing your personal information:
- RevenueCat to facilitate the one-time Lifetime purchase. RevenueCat is a service used to verify App Store receipts, process in-app purchases, restore previous purchases and sync purchase status between devices signed into your Apple ID. RevenueCat provides us with data on when a user first used the Tallyhop and with information about the Lifetime purchase. This information is linked to an anonymous App User ID. RevenueCat processes purchase and technical information on our behalf to provide its services. This may include an app user identifier, purchase receipts, device type and operating system. For more information, see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- TelemetryDeck to collect anonymised usage data. This helps us understand how our users are using our Tallyhop and how we can improve it. TelemetryDeck does not collect any personally identifiable information.
Where necessary, we will transfer personal information outside of the UK. When doing so, we comply with the UK GDPR, making sure appropriate safeguards are in place.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete this information. Parents or guardians can contact us using the contact details at the top of this privacy notice.
